Hello EARTH!
My name is Kate. I will be updating this blog along with my coworker and friend Tara. We are both passionate illustrators and environmental enthusiasts, and have been working with Greg Manchess and Jack Unruh (the curators) on this exciting project.
About two years ago Tara and I were looking over the Society of Illustrator’s book Art For Survival. The book was produced twenty years ago and featured the illustrations from 120 artists. We found, much to our chagrin, that many of the images in that book are still relevant today. It was at this moment that we decided to organize an exhibit to mark the twenty year anniversary, with a goal to educate and inform the public that the need to be environmentally aware and active is still very important.
Today we are very excited as the exhibition date approaches. We have been working very hard, along with the entire staff of the Society of Illustrators, to put together the best show for you. In the past few months we have secured an impressive list of illustrators, organized several related lectures and workshops, put together a press release, applied for numerous grants (thank you Jess!), researched sponsorship opportunities, and so much more.
I hope you enjoy this blog as we get closer to the exhibition date. Not only are we going to give you advice and information on living an environmentally friendly lifestyle, but we will also be sharing our process work on our illustrations, along with several other featured artists’ work.
